THE GREEN FUND AFRICA: Senegal
Biodigester Project
Promoting home biogas systems that use organic waste, helping families reduce energy costs and emissions.
The Biodigester Project in Senegal is a pilot initiative that introduces home-scale biogas systems fueled by organic waste such as food scraps and agricultural residue. These biodigesters convert waste into clean, renewable cooking gas, reducing families’ dependence on expensive or polluting fuel sources like charcoal. Beyond lowering household energy costs and carbon emissions, the project demonstrates a circular economy approach to waste management and offers scalable solutions to energy access and environmental health challenges in peri-urban and rural communities.
