Investing in Education for Climate Resilience and Equity

In Sierra Leone, Keep Africa Beautiful Sierra Leone (KABSL), with investment support from the Green Fund, is transforming access to education through the establishment and operation of the International Sustainability Leadership Academy, Bo—a Junior Secondary School located in the Morfindoh Layout, Niagorehun Section of Bo District. Built in response to the lack of quality learning facilities, the school empowers children and youth in vulnerable communities to complete their education and gain green technical skills. The Academy offers free education, fosters gender equity, and promotes personal integrity, multicultural understanding, and civic responsibility through climate-focused learning. Over 100 children have already benefited directly and indirectly from its programs, which include sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

To complement the school, Keep Africa Beautiful Sierra Leone has launched the Community Youth Climate Science Lab and Collaboration Hub and the African Civic and Environmental Education (ACEE-CHANGE) Fellowship, with investment support from the Green Fund. These programs address the country’s high dropout rates, youth unemployment, and limited technical training opportunities by creating spaces for leadership, research, and climate action. Together, these initiatives support a future where children and youth are equipped not only to survive but to thrive—and to lead their communities toward resilience and sustainability.
