Green Fund Africa: Liberia
Investing in Climate Resilience Through Education and Agriculture
To achieve Zero Hunger and build climate resilience in Liberia, the Climate Activist Association of Liberia—supported by investment from the Green Fund—launched a transformative Climate-Smart Agriculture project on Earth Day 2023. This initiative is set to impact more than 1,500 people, including youth, schoolchildren, women, Indigenous groups, and marginalized communities. The project builds the capacity of frontline communities to combat food insecurity, erosion, and flooding through climate-smart agricultural practices and localized innovation.
In tandem, the Climate Action School Team (CAST) was launched at Paynesville Community High School to embed environmental consciousness into academic life. CAST fosters a culture of sustainability through student engagement, faculty involvement, and community-led outreach. Together, these initiatives advance climate resilience in Liberia by equipping the next generation with both the tools and values to lead sustainable change.
