Pan Afri Globe
A program designed to facilitate STEM education, citizen science, weather data collection, and direct communication among students and scholars in Africa and across the African diaspora who are underrepresented in the geosciences. Climate change disproportionately impacts Sub-Saharan Africa, but there is a paucity of fine-grained meteorological data from the region to construct accurate climate models. Through this program, weather stations are distributed to schools in diverse climatic regions and coupled with grade-appropriate lesson plans that include competencies in numerical, physical, and geographic skills. Electronic communication promotes direct data comparison and communication among students, and the heritage connection between African Americans and Africans promotes student engagement.
